Let us introduce you to our April product of the month! Discover our brand new Thermo Fisher Scientific NanoDrop™ range from Labtech. This range is redefining the standards of sample analysis offering exceptional precision, speed, and versatility.

NanoDrop is a range of microvolume spectrophotometers. These units are designed for the precise and accurate measurement of nucleic acids, proteins, and other biomolecules in very small sample volumes, typically in the microliter range. They differ from traditional spectrophotometers due to NanoDrop only requiring the smallest of samples – as little as 1 µL. This makes them perfect for processes where samples are limited or highly precious.

The units use advanced optical technology for the precise measurement of absorbance at specific wavelengths in order to provide valuable research information such as sample concentration, purity ratios and more. NanoDrop instruments are most commonly used in molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, proteomics, and other life science disciplines for a variety of applications including nucleic acid quantification, protein analysis, and quality control.

The three new instruments which are now available from SciQuip are the NanoDrop Eight, the NanoDrop One/One C and the NanoDrop Lite Plus. In this blog we will delve into what they are and each of their unique features!

NanoDrop Eight

The NanoDrop Eight enables analysis of up to 8 samples at a time in less than 20 seconds with precision. The data can be analysed using the PC controlled software that uses Acclaro™ sample intelligence technology to provide fast and accurate quantification with unrivalled flexibility. The unique algorithm of the software not only identifies but corrects for copurified contaminants in the samples. Ultimately, this allows for a clearer understanding of the sample quality, reducing the risk of downstream reaction failures while saving time and resources.

Unique features in the NanoDrop Eight:

High Throughput: Quantify eight samples in under 20 seconds or analyze a 96-well plate (eight samples at a time) in less than 6 minutes.

Ready to Start: NanoDrop Eight operating software includes various measurement applications, such as dsDNA, RNA, Protein A280, and UV-Vis, catering to diverse research needs.

Optional Security Software: Integration with SciVault software ensures compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 electronic recordkeeping regulations, enhancing data security and regulatory compliance.

Ergonomic Ambidextrous Pipetting: The movable pipette guide accommodates both left- and right-handed users, enabling quick and comfortable sample dispensing.

LIMS Compatibility: Export data formats seamlessly integrate with leading Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) software, facilitating data management and analysis.

The NanoDrop Eight serves as an ideal solution for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic researchers that require a higher throughput capacity for measuring nucleic acid and protein samples.

NanoDrop One/One C

The NanoDrop One/One C are the revamped successor the highly popular ND1000 and ND2000 models. Sharing many of the features found in the NanoDrop Eight, the NanoDrop One/One C units are compact standalone microvolume spectrophotometers which also use the innovative and unique Acclaro™ sample intelligence technology.

They offer comprehensive and precise nucleic acid and protein analysis capabilities and incorporate a built-in cuvette reader. This provides the user with an additional assay flexibility, including kinetic assays and increases the dynamic range. The cuvette reader found in the One C model is used to measure the dilute samples and optical density of bacterial cultures or to perform kinetics experiments. The cuvette can be measured  with the sample arm up or down.  In addition, it offers temperature control and stirring functionalities. the combination of both the innovative sample-retention system and the cuvette capability, this allows for low and high concentrations.

Unique Features of the NanoDrop One/One C

Expanded dynamic range: Measure up to 27,500 ng/µL dsDNA or 400 mg/mL IgG without dilution

Streamlined multi-sample processing: With instant Auto-Measure and Auto-Blank capabilities

Cuvette option: Choose the NanoDrop One instrument for sample pedestal only or the NanoDrop OneC instrument for both pedestal and cuvette

Advanced connectivity: Connect, export, print, and view data remotely

Optional security software for compliance

Security Suite software aids compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 electronic recordkeeping regulations

Wide spectral range: Measure the full UV-Vis spectrum from 190–850 nm, allowing a range of assays as shown in the table below

Routine and custom embedded applications: DNA, RNA, and protein quantification, full spectral data, purity ratios (A260/A280, A260/A230), and more

Local or PC control software: Operate your instrument from the glove-compatible touchscreen or your Ethernet-connected PC, including custom methods and data export capabilities

Onboard integrated Learning Centre: A repository of technical support documents and educational animations at your fingertips

NanoDrop Lite Plus

The NanoDrop Lite Plus is an entry-level and affordable spectrophotometer and is ideal for those in academic research, academic teaching or biotechnology start-ups. Being the most compact and lightweight spectrophotometer in the NanoDrop range, the Lite Plus is a powerful and convenient unit that doesn’t compromise on data quality. It is a standalone, portable device which includes an easy-to-use touchscreen interface which can deliver sample results in less than 5 seconds from measurement. Furthermore, the Lite Plus model uses surface tension to hold the sample in place, removing the need for cuvettes or expensive consumables. In essence, it is our instrument of choice for routine microvolume quantification and quality assessment.

Unique Features of the NanoDrop Lite Plus

Standard measurements: Measures purified DNA, RNA, and purified protein concentrations up to 30 Abs, together with purity ratios

Fast, accurate measurements from only 1–2 μL—saves precious samples, no waste

Intuitive interface – No computer required

Data storage and transfer: Last 1,000 measurements saved locally; export data to a USB device

Optional tube label printer module available
